On Sunday November 11, Temple Beth El hosted a program given by Aaron Kintu Moses the education director of the Abuyadaya Community of Mbale Uganda. His program included Jewish music, a discussion of the evolution of the Jewish Community and its struggles to survive government sponsored antisemitism and oppressions.

Moses tours the world raising money to support two schools that educate and provide meals to nearly 800 children regardless of their religion. The sale of music CD's and religious objects made by the local population are the schools' main source of income. The Abayuda keep Kosher, celebrate Bar and Bat Mitzvah all the Hebrew holy days and keep the Sabbath.

The songs sung by Moses in Hebrew were inspiring and beautiful. One of their CD's was nominated as the Best Traditional World Music Album at the 47th Grammy awards . Refreshments were served by the Temple's Social Action Committee whose purpose is to promote Tikum Olam by helping support and maintain relationships with this courageous Jewish population .You can read more about the Abuyadaya community and contribute to their cause on Kulanu's website: http://www.kulanu.org/abayudaya/index.php#topics
