Join Rabbi Steven Kushner to examine 5 powerful films, made during periods of world upheaval, as a response to the dangers of mass hysteria and how it is often the lone individual voice which must transcend the collective chorus of evil. Most of these films were not designed to have mass appeal. But the filmmakers knew they had a responsibility to tell the truth, even though their productions would not necessarily bring significant monetary returns. These Hollywood classics are not so much stories about courage as they are lessons in rising above the din of inhumanity and the art of being human.
In addition to their beauty, our new Torah mantles will feature spiritual and ethical wisdom from the Torah and classical rabbinic literature. Rabbi Moritt will teach from the texts chosen for our new Torah mantles and lead discussions around what we can learn from them in our own day.

What are the historic patterns of antisemitism?
In this class, we will unearth the living Jewish story to reclaim the conversation around the topic. This is the history you weren’t taught. Using the curriculum developed by best-selling author Dara Horn’s Tell Institute, we will reframe Jewish history and culture to inspire curiosity rather than fear. We will identify historical patterns rather than just recycle old tropes. These sessions will inoculate us against hate by teaching us to recognize the foundational 2,500-year-old lie. The goal of this
class it to equip us with the knowledge to actively celebrate Jewish civilization and counter the lies of our own time.
We encourage parents to come to these sessions with their high school and college age children and learn this important history together! Ages 16+
only please.
