Religious School

Shalom from our Religious School Family!

The Beth-El Religious School is an engaging, dynamic part of our warm, caring, people-oriented and accepting congregation. Led by a fantastic team of professionals, our school boasts a small student-to-teacher ratio, differentiated learning, and many extra-curricular activities, designed to nurture our children’s spirit and connection to wonder; prepare them to be Jewish adults filled with a love and pride of being Jewish, and to strengthen and inform the role they play in the broader community.

Students learn the history, values, practices and language of the Jewish people while building a strong Jewish community within the school.  Religious school meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30am – 12pm . Each week, all grades participate together for Community Time with Rabbi Moritt and Cantor Breznick, and each grade has music and / or Hebrew Through Movement (K-2nd grade) every week.

Our religious school’s Family Education program is designed to support and enhance each family’s Jewish knowledge and practice as well as build community among our families. Parents join their children for part of our Sunday morning religious school several times each year to enjoy a special program led by teachers and clergy. Every week, we celebrate parents joining their children for prayer, reflection, song, learning and community updates at Community Time.

Our First Friday Shabbat celebrations are part of the Religious School curriculum. They begin with a family-friendly service at 6:30pm which features prayers the children write and offer. During the school year, they are followed by a special oneg honoring the children and provide a warm and welcoming way for our Religious School families to celebrate Shabbat and build community.

Our strengths include:

  • High quality Jewish literacy and history

  • The “Hebrew Through Movement” Program for our youngest learners in K-2nd grade

  • Family Learning Days

  • Post B’nai Mitzvah Students as “madrichim” teacher assistants

  • Robust Family Participation

Preparation for leading Bar/Bat Mitzvah service occurs under the tutelage of Rabbi Moritt and Cantor Breznick. As our children grow and begin to prepare for this milestone as part of embracing their Jewish identity – our clergy look forward to guiding them through this momentous transition in their lives.

Our Faculty Team includes seven teachers, Rabbi Moritt, and Cantor/Director of Education Laura Breznick.

Cantor Breznick can be reached through her email, cantorbreznick@betheljc.org.
