Tikkun Olam: Social Action to Repair the World

Take a moment and be inspired by the words of Assemblywoman Angela V. McKnight, speaker at our 34th Annual Shabbat tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We take seriously our obligation to be “fixers” of the world, promoting social justice.  We are also involved in refugee resettlement, hunger issues, anti-violence, LGBT rights, inter-religious understanding and protecting the earth.

  • We sustain and run our own food pantry to feed our homeless, hungry and food insecure neighbors in need.
  • Our congregation is a founding member of Jersey City Together, an interfaith community organizing group founded in 2015 with a focus on homelessness, affordable housing, youth opportunities and public safety.
  • We are members of Family Promise, a consortium of houses of worship who house homeless families with children in their transition toward safe and permanent homes.

We are also involved in refugee resettlement locally working with Church World Service in hands-on tasks to ease these newcomers transition to the United States.
