The Third Time is a Charm!
The big Social Hall news this week is that we finally persuaded the Jersey City Historic Preservation Commission to approve the canopies that we so badly need over the north and south emergency exit walkways.
After compelling presentations by our architects, engineers, and historical consultants, and statements by Temple members and friends, the Commissioners agreed that the canopies will work and the other potential solutions won’t. It took 11 months, but we got there.
In other construction news, the steel beams from which the folding partitions will be suspended have been hung in the Social Hall AND demolition has begun to accommodate the new basement-to-Annex roof stairway.
As a result, Starting Dec 23rd, 2024.
Direct access between the Annex and the Sanctuary will be blocked for about six (6) weeks
NOTE: The bathrooms will still be functioning and accessible through our School/Handicap entrance.
We will be updating the congregation regarding how we will be changing our Temple programming during this time.
The electricians are getting rid of old, unused wires, and figuring out how to consolidate our existing system, which has multiple electrical panels. We will also be getting real light switches in the Sanctuary so we won’t have to trip the circuit breakers every time we need to turn the lights on and off!
