Event Type

On Saturday, June 8, 2024, the 13th Annual Borscht Comedy Night will showcase an extraordinary lineup of comedians in Jersey City, bringing laughter and support to Temple Beth-El. The event will also feature a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses and a 50/50 raffle. This annual event, hosted by local funny guy Phil Rivo, has become a beloved tradition since its inception in 2010. Rivo’s initiative to raise funds for Temple Beth-El, Jersey City’s only reform synagogue has garnered immense success, featuring renowned comedians such as Judy Gold, Mike Fine, Todd Barry, and the previous year’s headliner, Ariel Elias.

This year’s stellar lineup boasts Olga Namer, a regular at New York City comedy clubs, who captivated audiences as the 2018 winner of the Ladies of Laughter competition. Her humor is described as a delightful blend of honesty, authenticity, and sarcasm–which is why she fit right in on tour with Chelsea Handler! Joining her is Dina Hashem, known for her wry observations on life and Arab-American experiences. She has graced the stages of The Comedy Cellar and Gotham Comedy Club, appearing on Comedy Central’s Roast Battle and CONAN on TBS. The highlight of the night will be Cory Kahaney, a grand finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and a semi-finalist on America’s Got Talent. Kahaney’s remarkable comedic talent has earned her spots on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The ViewFox and Friends, and comedy specials on Comedy Central and HBO. Her latest special, Antique Joke Show, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime in August, but you can catch her live this weekend at the Borscht Comedy Night!
