Serving Hudson County’s Progressive Jewish Community for Over 150 Years

Important High Holy Day Update

After much discussion and careful consideration, our Temple leadership has determined what we believe is the best way for our community to celebrate the High Holy Days together in a way that maximizes what is most important: health; Jewish values; the way we care for one another; and the profound feeling of being together for the Yamim Nora’im.
To this end, we have decided to cap the attendance at in-sanctuary High Holy Day services. Each non-children’s service will be capped at 200 attendees, and each children’s service will be capped at 150 attendees. There are also three important requirements for attendance:
  • First, all attendees must be part of a member family, which has made a pledge and first payment for the new fiscal year.
  • Second, all attendees must remain masked when indoors at all times.
  • Third, all adults and children ages 12 and over must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Fully vaccinated, as defined by the CDC, means either: (a) 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or (b) 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. (Children under 12, who are not eligible for approved vaccines, will still be permitted to attend, subject to our capacity limits.)
Online registration for our High Holy Day services will begin next week, and will require affirmation that all attendees will comply with these requirements. These restrictions will not apply to events that are not taking place in the sanctuary, such as Taschlich at Liberty State Park. In addition, all in-sanctuary services will be livestreamed on our YouTube channel, and prayer books (machzorim) will be made available to those who wish to worship from home.
We encourage all adults and children ages 12 and over to get vaccinated as soon as possible. A list of Jersey City vaccination sites, including several walk-up options, is available at https://jerseycitynj.gov/CityHall/health/covid19vaccines. Drive up appointments for Hudson County residents can be found at https://hudsoncovidvax.org/. You can also visit the New Jersey Vaccine Appointment Finder at https://covid19.nj.gov/pages/finder.
The online registration form will be up and running within a few days. Please watch for it. In the meantime, please ensure that your membership is renewed and that you have made your first payment toward the new membership year. The new membership year began July 1. Click here to pledge and renew your membership if you have not already set automatic monthly Terumah payments.
